QUESTION: OK, it’s the New Year and I really want to get my body in a healthier place. But the thought of going on another diet and having to make so many changes already exhausts me! Any suggestions?
YES!! How much time do you have?
You have just represented what many people feel, who want to say goodbye to some extra weight …so thank you for asking! One of biggest issues in taking better care of yourself is BEGINNING! And, all too often, you think you have to make MANY changes RIGHT NOW! In fact, that’s one of the reasons people are not able to stick to their New Year’s resolution. The change seems like TOO MUCH!
I’m a BIG believer of taking small steps that produce significant results!!
And I’m going to offer a different suggestion! What if you make ONE change today? JUST ONE! What is the ONE thing that you can do that says “I’m taking better care of my body!” Maybe you decide to start your day with a healthier breakfast. Maybe you decide to drink more water, and you drink a glass first thing in the morning. What if you decide to move your body just a little, and you set your ‘alarm’ at work and take a five minute walk.
Then the next day, you repeat what you just did the day before and then add ONE MORE change. So if you took that 5 minute walk, maybe the second day you take TWO five minute walks!! Or you drink TWO glasses of water.
I suggest you begin with ONE area, then gradually expand to others. For example, if you feel that moving your body would be the change that would have the most impact for you, start there!
This is what I consider LEANING INTO LOVING YOURSELF LEAN!
Just do ONE thing that makes you feel like you are taking better care of yourself…and congratulate yourself for doing that! And be sure to acknowledge yourself! This is a very important part!
If you make one little change each day…or even most days…then after 30 days…you’ve made some pretty significant changes…and after a YEAR…well who knows what you may or may not be doing! (But let’s not think about a year from now…let’s bring you back to just doing some little something NOW!!!)
And do it NOW because this is how you’re going to demonstrate how special you are and how special your body and life is to you!
