First, I would like to thank those of you who took the time to be on our call earlier this week! Loved your questions and the opportunity to begin sharing how to take better care of yourself for the holidays! We’ll have more coming in the new year!
The theme that we discussed, that I want to share with you today, is to take a closer look at how you can NOURISH yourself during the holidays.
When many people think of nourishment, they tend to think about the nourishment from food. But I also want to address other kinds of nourishment
MENTAL NOURISHMENT: Your thoughts are constantly active. And many times they can be creating ‘mischief’ by saying ‘not so nice’ kinds of things that contribute to you feeling stressed, worried, overwhelmed or anxious. AND when you are feeling this way, your ‘eating barometer’ can also get knocked off balance. There are many ways to help calm your mind, but the one suggestion I’m going to make for now is to play some calming music. Our world has become very noisy and it will nourish you to find ways to quiet your mind and body.
EMOTIONAL NOURISHMENT: You may be someone that has ALOT of family, friends & activities going on during the holidays. If so, make sure you take a little time each day for YOU. If you are entertaining at your home, create healthier food choices and ask people to bring food, easing your responsibilities. LET THE LOVE IN.
If you are at the other end of the spectrum, where you may be alone during the holidays, reach out to see if someone will adopt you. I did this for the first time a number of years ago (which was way out of my comfort zone) and I had a few people offer me to join them. In fact, I mentioned this on our call the other night, since I’m on my own this year, and two people emailed me, inviting me to join them! DON’T stay at home by YOURSELF! LET THE LOVE IN!
SPIRITUAL NOURISHMENT: use this time to journal, get closer to your heart, to God. Do what works for you! (Loving Yourself Lean gets to the HEART of what’s preventing you from losing weight…and takes a spiritual approach to change what you can do about that!!) find a book that speaks to your heart! LET THE LOVE IN!
PHYSICAL NOURISHMENT: Start your day with a good, healthy foundation. Make sure you get good protein in your meal, to balance your blood sugar. When you eat in a way that serves you,the times you go to parties, or treats brought to your office, etc., you can more easily navigate through the treats you TRULY want to indulge in!
And take a little time to move your body. Take SHORT walks, take short breaks from work to walk around (it will also help you be more productive!) Every little bit helps!
AND…ENJOY! Allow your family, friends, and pets, even time in nature to love on you a little more! There is so much good wanting to come to you….LET THE LOVE IN!
Have a great week!
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: what is something that you can do to nourish you mind and heart just a little bit more, that says ‘I love you?’
