It seems every holiday, I manage to get sick! What’s up with that?
You are not alone! I’ve noticed this is true for many people, including me! So let’s take a closer look at how you may navigate through the holidays, so you can stay HEALTHY!
First of all, there is a tendency to spread yourself a little too thin. Maybe you are trying to finish up some work projects, so you can take some time off. Maybe you are out shopping, amongst the flurry of people doing the same thing. All of these activities can potentially drain you of your energy, as opposed to nourish you!
What can you do different? Instead of feeling pressured or hurried, take a few deep breaths and get PRESENT to your task. For example, just yesterday, I needed to run a couple of quick errands. I was attempting to finish them within an hour. This was a SELF-IMPOSED deadline! It would have been nice to finish in that time frame, but I began noticing my body getting tense. So I stopped, took a few deep breaths and focused on what needed to get done and ENJOY my time out! It made a HUGE difference immediately!
Shopping at the mall? No problem! Begin to notice the children and families running their errands. Take delight in the people that you see. SMILE! You may have just made someone else’s day SO special! And, instead of experiencing the mall as a crazy place to be, you may just notice a different kind of experience! The same with your other projects; Must you ABSOLUTELY get this done? If so, allow yourself to FOCUS and ENJOY doing the task! Not only will you feel better, you actually will be more productive! It just takes a moment to SHIFT your attitude!
And TAKE TIME for you!!!! During the holiday, NOURISH your heart and soul! Take a coffee/tea break. Spend some time in quiet. Listen to some soothing music. Take a mini-nap. Get outside for a little walk around the block. All of these simple, small steps can help you better navigate your time and energy during the holidays!
AND do your best to start your day with some good nutrition! If you aren’t a big ‘fresh’ veggie person, invest in a good nutritional drink. You need to help your body balance the foods that you may eat during this time of year! The more you can create a foundation of HEALTH, honor and care for your body, the more you are going to avoid getting sick….and being able to TRULY enjoy this time of the year!
I wish ALL of you a very special, loving, nurturing holiday!
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: What is something that you are going to do TODAY that RECHARGES your body? What can you do to better support your body?
